About Ericka:
Ericka Julie Jean Louis is a dynamic and multifaceted Haitian artist whose talents span dance, music, and acting. Born in Port-au-Prince on September 7, Ericka began her artistic journey early, studying classical and contemporary dance at Sainte Trinité and later at the Centre de Danse René Delsoin, where she also served as an instructor. Her professional dance career launched in 2010 with Digicel, taking her to international stages in Taiwan, Trinidad and Tobago, and beyond. As the lead vocalist of the all-female group Siwomyèl, and later as a solo artist with songs like Pran menm, Ericka has continued to make waves in Haiti’s music scene. She has also graced the stage and screen as an actress, with a standout performance in the 2022 short film N Ap Boule, which portrays the challenges of life during social unrest in Haiti.
About The Film:
N ap Boule is a 2022 Haitian short film directed and co-written by Alexandrine Benjamin.
Set against the backdrop of the "Peyi Lòk" protests—a period of intense political unrest and gang violence that paralyzed Haiti—the film follows Jean and Rose, a young couple striving to reach a hospital for the birth of their first child.
Their journey is fraught with peril, including blocked roads and armed gangs, reflecting the real-life challenges many Haitians face in accessing basic healthcare.
The film poignantly highlights systemic issues such as the neglect of maternal health, the impact of socio-political instability, and the human cost of violence.
Despite their efforts, Jean and Rose encounter indifference and barriers within the healthcare system, underscoring the dire state of medical services in Haiti.
N ap Boule has garnered international recognition, screening at festivals like the Montreal International Black Film Festival and the Charlotte Film Festival.
It serves as both a mirror to Haitian society and a call to action, urging viewers to reflect on the consequences of systemic neglect and to advocate for change.
